Sam Mahtani contributes three key areas of expertise to every project he undertakes: proficiency in portfolio management, extensive knowledge in sustainability, and a proven ability to build and maintain strong client relationships within the investment management industry. With experience as a Portfolio Manager, and his collaboration with fund management groups, asset owners, and distribution teams, Sam offers a comprehensive, 360-degree perspective on the complexities of the investment world and offers solutions to how his clients can overcome these challenges.
Sam has over three decades of experience working in the Investment management industry working for Columbia Threadneedle Investments, BMO Global Asset Management and F&C Asset Management. During 2012-2023, Sam successfully managed and grew the Columbia Threadneedle Responsible Emerging Markets portfolio, helping increase assets under management from USD 500 million to USD 2 billion. This growth was driven by strategic marketing efforts across European banks and financial institutions, including winning some large Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) mandates.
In 2023, he acted as a Strategic Advisor for the Access to Nutrition Initiative, formulating their India strategy during an interim project and successfully attracting several new partners as signatories to the foundation. In 2025 he worked on behalf of some European bodies to help them on an engagement program with the fund management industry on proposed changes to the EU Omnibus rules.
Sam serves as a Strategic Advisor to Vizzy, an innovative technology platform designed to help businesses effectively identify and hire the right talent. He has also provided advisory services to organizations like Big Issue Invest and Be the Business, mentoring and guiding entrepreneurs across the UK. In 2024, Sam served as a mentor and advisor to social impact entrepreneurs in the Big Issue Invest Power Up London program, helping organisations improve profitability while driving positive societal outcomes.
In a personal capacity, Sam serves as an Independent Advisor on the Investment Committee of a leading animal welfare charity in the UK, which boasts an annual income of £86 million and operates across 300 branches, adoption centres, and retail stores across the UK.
Sam’s extensive experience in the investment management industry, coupled with his strong connections with Fund Management groups, Asset Owners, Foundations, Charities, and the LGPS community, enables him to deliver exceptional client experiences and successful investment outcomes.
